Swan Street Studio

Katherine Hackl established her ceramic studio in 1994, producing traditionally hand crafted pottery and tile for both private and public installations. Her techniques and designs draw on the Arts and Crafts tradition. Katherine's distinctive pottery is a collection of hand–thrown functional stoneware and porcelain forms decorated with a hand–carved sgraffito technique. Each piece is a unique combination of elegant forms layered with botanical images, patterns, and illustrations. The tiles are made by carving the design into plaster molds, then pressing wet clay into the molds. After an initial firing, each piece is hand painted with a variety of custom colored glazes and fired again.
